Currently, all NAM students in grades K-6 who reside in the East Area for Magnet schools and live more than a mile away from the school, are eligible for yellow bus transportation.  Students not using scheduled yellow bus transportation will be dropped from the service roster after two weeks of non-use. Questions? please call the transportation office at 363-0321. Preschool students are not eligible for yellow bus transportation.

Students are assigned to ride school buses that will pick them up and drop them off in close proximity to their homes  If you move, please notify the school office as well as the CPS transportation office.

Transportation changes may possibly take 2-4 weeks to be processed.

Good behavior is expected on all buses. the safety of every student requires that they follow all rules. A written incident report will be issued for misbehavior and parents will be notified. Bus suspensions will be issued after the second write u, beginning with a three day suspension.  After the fifth incident report, a student will be removed from the bus for the remainder of the year, and it will be the responsibility of the parents to transport their child to and from school on time.

For more information, see Transportation on CPS District website.

Early Dismissal

posted Aug 8, 2008 8:36 PM by Maurice Faison   [ updated Aug 14, 2009 6:00 AM ]

Please notify the teacher in writing if a student needs to leave early for an appointment. Be sure to include the reason for early dismissal, the time you will come to school to retrieve your child and your signature.

Students will be sent to the office at the appointed time for departure. Parents (or another person, as designated in your note to the teacher) must come to the office to sign the child out. If the adult arrives before the student has come to the office, after signing the child out, they will be given a visitors badge to wear-- allowing them to walk through the hallway and pick up the student from class.

Drop-off / Pick-up Procedure

posted Aug 8, 2008 8:35 PM by Maurice Faison   [ updated Aug 14, 2009 6:01 AM ]

Adult supervision begins at 7:30 a.m. Students who walk to school or ride with parents should arrive no earlier than 7:30. Parents who drive students to school are asked to please utilize the drop-off circle behind the school (entrance off Reading Road next to recreation center). Adults will be present to receive students from 7:30-7:45. the driveway closes at 7:45. Classes convene at 7:45 and instruction begins at 7:50.After this time, students are considered tardy and should report to the office for a tardy slip.

Parents may park across from the school on Glenwood Avenue or on side streets or at the rear of the school (entrance off Reading Road next to recreation center). Parents are asked not to park on school grounds or in the Rec Center, as staff parking is limited.

After school on days when the weather is good, parents are asked to wait outside for students in designated areas. On rainy and cold days, the office will announce an "In Day" dismissal over the P.A. system, and parents are asked to pick up children in their classrooms. Your cooperation with these procedures help us to maximize instructional time and insure safety for our students and staff.

If it becomes necessary to pick your child up from school early, please notify the teacher in writing-- and it will be necessary to sign your child out in the office when you pick them up. Please do not go directly to your child's classroom.

If your child has a change in transportation plans, Please put such changes in writing for the teacher to avoid confusion.

According to legal guidelines, we cannot accept verbal notification of changes.

Visitor Procedures

Policy for School Visitors

For the safety of all Students and Staff , we ask that parents sign in at the office every time you visit the school during instructional time. Volunteers will be given a visitors badge to wear which is visible to all. This helps us to become familiar with new members of our community and to take action immediately if someone who may present a danger to our children enters the school.

We appreciate your steadfast compliance with this policy for the safety of our students and to maximize instructional time for all!
